European Charm at BnB Swiss

Updated: May 8, 2020

Nestled up against a hillside on the outskirts of Cedar City, Utah you'll find an American dream in action. Built by native Swiss owners Ilona and Uwe Ewen, BnB Swiss is southern Utah with a European flare. Why stay in your typical chain hotel when you can have a one of a kind lodging experience, complete with a traditional European breakfast in the morning?

Meet the Owners

Ilona and Uwe first came to the United States 16 years ago. After touring the country for 10 years, they fell in love with southern Utah. Being outdoors enthusiasts, they knew Cedar City and its close proximity to two national parks was the perfect place to bring their bed and breakfast dream to life. BnB Swiss has been a labor of love for this couple, and they love providing their guests with top notch service and a unique experience.

The Cabins

If you want guaranteed peace and quiet while you slumber, choosing to stay at BnB Swiss is a no brainier. You won't have to worry about thin walls or parties going on over head when you stay here. Enjoy having your own space and peace and quiet, as BnB Swiss is located on the edge of town, close to the comforts of the city, but with the solitude you crave. You won't find surprise train tracks running behind these cabins, just miles of open hills and trails for you to explore. There are 8 private cabins; 3 king sized, and 5 double queen.

Winter/off season rates: start at $100 +tax for king, $110 +tax for queen

Summer/on season rates: start at $120 +tax for king, $130 +tax for queen

By the week/month pricing is available upon request

Rates are for 2 guests. Each additional guest is $25 a night for an adult, $10 for a child

Cabins come with all necessary amenities; a microwave, coffee maker, mini fridge and freezer, hair dryer, wifi, etc. A traditional European breakfast is included in the price {more on that in a moment!}.

Cabins are PET FRIENDLY! This is huge, there are not many pet friendly hotels in the area, and the one's who are will charge you an arm and a leg extra to have them. The cost to bring Fido with you? $10 per night. Yeah. You read that right. Just $10 per pet per night. If you've ever tried to book a hotel with your pet in tow before you know how amazing this is. The best part? All those trails that surround the BnB are perfect for morning walks. Your dog will think he has died and gone to heaven, and you probably will too.

Check out the BnB Swiss website for more details.

The RV Park

There is room for 17 RVs. Each lot comes with full hook ups; Back-in 45 ft with power (50, 30 and 20A), sewer, water and wifi.

$45 +taxes a night for a plot

$270 +taxes per week

Discounted rate available for a month, call to inquire

Good Sam members receive a 10% discount with valid member ID

Many who stay in the RV park do so for quite some time and become a part of the ambiance of the BnB. You'll find them on the front porch shooting the breeze with Uwe, or out on the hills having a walk.

Currently, there is no restroom/shower building for the RVers, though plans are in motion to build one soon, along with more cabins!

Breakfast {omg!}

This wouldn't be the BnB Swiss without a full, traditional European spread for breakfast. I've not been to Europe yet, so I had no idea what to expect. When I think of breakfast buffets in hotels I think of waffle irons, muffins, and greasy pig. This is not the case here. What you will find is far better, quality breads made from scratch by Ilona each morning and eggs cooked to order by Uwe. Do yourself a favor and don't go to breakfast in a rush. Instead take your time and appreciate the food and company, the way they do in Europe. When in Rome, right?

I want to make it perfectly clear how I feel about oatmeal. I hate it. It's all gunky and gross, not my fav. So when I saw oatmeal on the breakfast buffet I only scooped myself some to be polite. I didn't care how "special" it was, I wasn't going to like it. Wellhehehell.... color me humbled, because not only did I devour that first bowl, but I also got seconds and I have done nothing but dream about it ever since. Technically, it's muesli, and it's delicious. It's full of fruit and cream, you really can't go wrong.

Almost everything on the breakfast buffet is made from scratch. "We make the meats, except salami, we don't have the right climate to make salami". Umm, what? I wasn't even aware deli meat was something you could make, but apparently you can, and the Ewen's do, in addition to an assortment of breads, pastries, and croissants. Did you hear that? HOME.MADE.CROISSANTS. Some of them have chocolate inside. It's like heaven in your mouth.

Other deliciousness you'll find on the menu: yogurt, a variety of jams, meat and cheese plates, juice, hot chocolate, herbal teas, coffee, cappuccino, and espresso. There are gluten free bread options as well.

I grew up with parents who believe food should be made from scratch and with love, and it has been so refreshing to stop by BnB Swiss and see that there are others out there with the same philosophy. Meals should be an experience, not just a means to an end. In our fast-paced culture it is nice to know that there are still those who know how to slow down and do things right.

Breakfast is included in the price of the cabins, $7 if you are staying in the RV park, $9 for walk ins.*

But Wait, There's More!

Breakfast is great, but that's not all these busy bodies do. As if running a bed and breakfast and cooking up meals from scratch everyday wasn't enough, Ilona bakes a variety of cakes on the weekends. Friday-Sunday stop by and buy it by the slice, or put in an order for a full cake. These aren't the overly rich and sugary cakes your American belly has become accustomed to, but a lighter, true to Europe variety.

Cake not your thing? Don't worry, Uwe makes bratwurst, because why wouldn't he? Who even are these people?!? These are made periodically, so call and find out when it's on the menu next, or follow their Facebook page for updates. In addition to the brats, they often serve German potato salad, chicken noodle soup, and the most delicious, crusty bread that Ilona of course just whips up, because she's superwoman. Brats are cooked to order, so again, come for the experience, not the speed. This isn't a race, and the heavenly smell that will fill your nostrils while you wait for your food to cook...mmmm....worth it.

Every first Saturday in May, BnB Swiss hosts a classic car show complete with vendors, giveaways, and of course, the brats! So mark your calendars, and May 4th be with you, as you head over to BnB Swiss for the festivities {see what I did there? 'cause it's on may 4th this year. I'm hilarious}.

A stay at BnB Swiss is like two vacations is one. You get to enjoy the red rocks of southern Utah while having an authentic European experience, all at the same time. Ilona and Uwe are gracious hosts, who have a wealth of knowledge not just of Europe, but of southern Utah as well. They'll happily point you in the direction of secret hikes and local treasures. There truly is no better place to stay in Cedar City!
